WBU Choir performed their first concert of the season titled: New Beginnings. The concert took place at the Harral Memorial Auditorium Tuesday, October 12th at 7 pm. Dr. Sarah Herrington, director of Choral Studies, noted a special purpose and meaning behind the title of the concert.
“Our School of Music has just restructured this year to now be the School of Creative Arts. It has been a wonderful change that makes us stronger and more diverse than ever,” Herrington said. “The 2020-2021 school year was particularly tough for music students and faculty with COVID restrictions. We all had to find ways to go about learning and performing our craft. It has been a great new beginning to start this year afresh and actually have live performances again!”
The last music piece that was played was titled: “Ubuntu”, which is an African concept that translates to: “I am, because we are”. This piece was composed by WBU Choir alumna, Christi Jones.
“That sums up so much of what we are about as a choir. We work to connect to one another and then extend that connection to those around us,” Herrington said. “This is my first year as director of Choral Studies here at WBU. So, it’s truly a new beginning for us all!”
This concert truly displayed how much love and dedication was poured into composing each piece. Dr. Sarah Herrington, Christi Jones, and other wonderfully talented individuals that provided a helping hand in any way, deserve to be recognized for such a beautifully well-done performance.
