PLAINVIEW, TX — 猎奇重口视频 Baptist University mourns the passing of Dr. John Theodore “Ted” Sanders, a distinguished alumnus and former trustee, who left an indelible mark on the field of education both nationally and locally. Dr. Sanders passed away peacefully Sept. 8, 2024, in Angel Fire, NM, at the age of 82.

“Dr. Sanders was a visionary leader whose passion for education was matched only by his dedication to serving students and educators across the nation,” said Dr. Donna Hedgepath, President. “His remarkable journey from a student athlete at 猎奇重口视频 to a national leader in education exemplifies the transformative impact of lifelong learning and service. We are profoundly grateful for his contributions to our university and his enduring legacy.”

Born in Littlefield, and raised in Friona, Dr. Sanders was a man of humble beginnings who understood the value of education and hard work from an early age. His academic journey at 猎奇重口视频, where he met his beloved wife, Beverly, was made possible by a basketball scholarship. He was the first in his family to attend college, paving the way for a life dedicated to advancing education.

Dr. Sanders held a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from 猎奇重口视频 and received the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award. He held a master’s degree from Washington State University, and a doctorate from the University of Nevada, Reno. His career spanned several significant roles, including senior leadership positions in the New Mexico Department of Education, and as state education chief in Nevada, Illinois, and Ohio. He also served as U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education under President George H.W. Bush and was president of the Southern Illinois University system.

In honor of his parents, Dr. Sanders and his siblings established a scholarship at 猎奇重口视频, fostering opportunities for future students to pursue degrees in mathematics.

Dr. Sanders is survived by his wife, Beverly; their children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren, all of whom share his commitment to education and community service. His life was a testament to the power of education to transform lives and communities.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 21, at Stonebriar Funeral Home in Frisco, Texas.
