Clay R. Warren Memorial Music Symposium celebrates the joy of music

PLAINVIEW — The joy of music will be on display Saturday, Jan. 20, as 猎奇重口视频 Baptist University’s School of Creative Arts hosts “Catalyst,” the fifth annual Clay R. Warren Memorial Music Symposium.

Dr. Sarah Herrington, Director of Choral Studies and Assistant Professor of Music Education, describes the 2024 symposium for high school choral directors and their students as “a day to celebrate joy in music.”

“This is a day of clinics focusing the joy we find in music,” Dr. Herrington said. “We will reconnect to the foundations of what we do and why we do it. We will catch inspiration and develop strategies for taking that excitement back to our own programs. It is a time to pause, consider, and celebrate.”

The symposium culminates with a time of reflection at 7 p.m. in Earl Miller Recital Hall for the choral directors as well as the student leaders in their choirs. Dr. Herrington said the final session will be a time for sharing experiences from the day and presenting music.

“Join us as area high school choir directors, high school choir student leaders, and WBU choir students share their joy in music,” Dr. Herrington said.

Choral directors who would like to join the symposium for a portion or all clinics are welcome to attend, Dr. Herrington said, noting that materials can be prepared for those who contact her in advance.

The Clay R. Warren Memorial Symposium was established by Mark and Freada Warren of Plainview to honor their son, Clay, who died tragically at age 18. A member of the Plainview High School Choir, Clay was an avid lover of music.
